The Twisted Flower socks are finally getting somewhere. Having got as far as turning the heel before deciding the gauge was too tight, I've had to frog and re-knit the lot. I've now got both onto the foot though with both heels fully turned.
What is becoming rapidly apparent though is that I've not got enough yarn spun up. I'm not sure at this point how much short I'm going to be so the hope is that for the final bit I can pinch just a bit from the second braid of this, leaving me enough to do something nice for my Mum with the rest of it. Keep your fingers crossed for me please!
Do you use superwash fibre to spin yarn for yours socks?
ReplyDeleteOddly until recently no. The Ostara Twisted Flower above are a pure Shetland from Yarnscape's Wheel of the Year club and I've also got a half done set of socks in BFL/Seacell though for reasons various I've not yet finished them. The two that I oddly support spindled longdraw(!!!! yes I am nuts!) were a mix of merino and shetland and seem to be holding up well. Wierdly though I have just spun some sockweight superwash merino for a swap I'm in and urk I hated spinning it. Flat, lifeless and generally boring as heck! Washing wise I tend to just once a week/when I've got enough to be worth doing throwing a whole bunch of them in some Euclan and hot water. Seems to get them nice and clean without it being too much hastle.
ReplyDeleteHope you're enjoying the nice weather :)
Interesting! I think I would start with superwash first simply because I can't be bothered with washing by hand.
ReplyDeleteRight now I am spinning 50g seacell on a supported spindle and some camel/silk on my Russian. The seacell took some getting used to but it working well. No ide what to make from it yet though.
Weatherwise, I am trying to survive the heat. I don't do well with heat or cold, but I do like sunshine a lot!
